Muanza, a woman born in the Kingdom of Congo, was trafficked to Brazil in the mid-19th century. Upon awakening in the present day, Muanza finds herself in Rio de Janeiro, where figures from the past and present are part of the search for her origins. The film bears witness to the life that emerges from the city’s spaces, the gestures of resistance in the face of forced deterritorialization, and the affections that sustain relationships of sisterhood.
