Anti-Medo

“Anti-Medo” is a pseudonym for Miguel Sampaio. Miguel is a Vareiro character whose childhood was spent on the shores of the Ria de Aveiro and Furadouro. From an early age, he showed determination and dedication to what he was interested in, having played for the Portuguese National Basketball Team at the age of 14. However, the discovery that life is not just about competition brought about an abrupt change in his life, leading him unconsciously to develop a passion for imagination, sound, rhythm and creative sharing.

He began his musical career as a self-taught musician, occasionally accompanied by teachers, later deciding, “through the fault” of Oscar Peterson and Miles Davis, that the mystery of art would be part of his life forever. He went through jazz schools and higher music education (ESMAE).

Miguel has always been associated with other musicians/artists since the beginning of his activity, passing through different styles without stylistic or conceptual barriers, keeping an open mind to this day. His latest solo project is entitled “Anti-Medo”, reflecting a point of change, growth, independence and the search for authenticity.

Some examples of works in which he has participated in the past include: Puzzle3 trio – D; Musgos – Live Sessions; Uhai – Live na Loja; Gio Yañes – Zero Point Energy; Gio Yañes – Zink Tank; Rogério Francisco Quarteto; João Freitas – Live Sessions 2; A incerteza do trio certo; Bison’s Big Bang – Beyond the canyon.

Carlos Raposo

Carlos Raposo’s music projects two distinct universes, proposing a symbiosis between traditional Portuguese music, with references in folk, fado and Carlos Paredes’ guitars – which come to life on the Viola Campaniça – and electronic music, which is supported by classic synthesizers from the 70s and 80s such as the Mini Moog and the Juno 106.

The journey through this sound universe is marked by the melancholic tones and melodies of the Viola Campaniça and the electronic sounds, which guide us through a sometimes psychedelic experience without ever leaving Portugal and tradition behind.
