Synopsis

“I kissed the mouth of madness and the stars sharpened my tongue”

It is a book that begins before it is written, with the study of the human psyche and its direct relationship with mental illness, focusing on the female gender. From my own personal experiences, the reader will have the opportunity to experience not only the feelings of the poet’s madness, but also the universality of madness and its connections with human feelings. The research began in 2022.

The book will poetically explore madness and question normality. It intends to go further, portraying how madness can be a form of manipulation of women. At least 180 poems will be created that address how we women are often labeled as “crazy” and diagnosed with mental disorders when we demand something in a relationship, to the extreme of compulsory hospitalizations – a form of violence against women that has been used for centuries and accepted by society.

Based on a critical analysis of mental illness and its interactions with society, the proposal seeks to explore how expressions of suffering become objects of labeling and medication. Rather than focusing solely on the terminologies used to describe the mental condition (anxiety, depression, etc.), the proposal questions how these labels shape the social and individual perception of mental health, as well as reflecting on the relationship between madness and art.
