GYMNASIUM – THOUGHT TRANSFORMED THE INFINITE INTO A SNAKE
Laboratories for artistic experimentation in a school context
Gymnasium is a co-production project by casaBranca and LAC – Laboratório de Actividades Criativas, which proposes the implementation in several schools in the city of Lagos of a regular program of training and artistic experimentation aimed at children and young people. It comprises a set of workshops in various artistic “disciplines” guided by artists, to be held in the schools throughout the 2015-2016 school year.
Recognizing the central place of the school in the communities, itself representing a community with its own identity, the idea of working in the center of this micro-cosmos appears to us as fundamental, intervening directly in the school space itself, occupying it and transforming and disturbing it.
For this project, we invite people from the most different areas, close to us and accomplices or whose work we admire, to come and think, invent and (de)construct ideas and concepts, create laboratories of action and thought, of training and free and unconditioned experimentation and, at the same time, protected. Operating in a transversal way and proposing interdisciplinary practices of experimental character and also practices of a more technical nature, the goal is to increase the experience horizon of children/youth, putting them in contact with different expressions and lexicons and promoting their ability to choose and think according to their true subjectivity.
The project includes holding a conversation/debate at the end of the school year, which will allow reflection on the work carried out, and on the artistic processes in integration with the educational processes, to which its main actors will be invited: professionals from education, parents, children and artists.
