Mural with Gonçalo MAR

Rua Mouzinho de Albuquerque, Portimão
Rua de Olivença, Portimão

April 2021

Within the scope of the partnership between LAC and the Municipality of Portimão during the “Young March” program, the artist Gonçalo MAR painted a mural on April 24th and 25th at the intersection of Rua Mouzinho de Albuquerque and Rua de Olivença in Portimão.
“When I realized it was a wall from a cemetery in Portimão I was a bit miffed, because in my idea, there is a certain sensitivity when we approach more fragile subjects, such as death, and what can arise from that in terms of discomfort and visual judgment.
I decided to use my character of the Tourist to, in a way, make the contemplation more transversal, that is, I continue to tell the story of my tourist that defines me and my work.
I create a bridge between the character and the place, accepting as an idea that, that place serves as a starting point for another journey and that our ethereal forms,s take the form of these fish of mine hand to continue the rest of the journey as tourists that we are, wanderers and nomads in this world and the next.”
