Synopsis

Rock da Baixa Mar, in partnership with LAC and Museu Zer0, presents another edition of the Paisagens Eletr0nicas concert series, this time featuring Coletivo Algarve – Art Lab.

The work – MAGNIFICATIO ALGERVENSIS – is inspired by the Algarvensis Geopark, through its many facets: unique geological aspects, but also landscapes, fauna, and flora. It consists of a transdisciplinary performance in which instrumental music and generative visuals communicate through the mediation of digital technologies. On the sonic side, a computational component adds features to traditional electroacoustic capabilities, as well as playing an important part in the musical dialogue through the use of Interactive Machine Learning algorithms, making it possible for the musical response of the computational component to evolve in real time.

Visually, there is a generative system controlled in real time, as if it were an instrument, in which textures—based on photographs taken in the Algarvensis Geopark and subsequently digitally manipulated—are transformed in time with the musical performance. Thus, the convergence of these three vectors—musical performance, digital augmentation, and responsive generative art—is used to take the audience on a magnificent sensory journey.

The Algarve Collective – Art Lab, composed of Rui Travasso, Vasco Ramalho, André Conde, Pedro Alves da Veiga, and Rui Sousa d’Orey, is a collaborative structure formed by artists from different backgrounds and paths, although all with a strong connection to the Algarve, either through their birthplace, their affections, or their life path. It was born out of their desire to forge common paths between music, visual arts, and emerging technologies, transforming tradition and the land into the stuff of the future.
