The Camarata Project is an initiative promoted by LAC – Laboratório de Actividades Criativas, Associação Cultural, with the aim of fostering the appreciation of local culture and encouraging the active participation of communities in artistic and cultural life. Developed in the municipality of Lagos, the project pays special attention to the populations of Chinicato, Bairro 25 de Abril (Meia-Praia) and the CASLAS (Lucinda Anino dos Santos Social Assistance Center) units, promoting access to culture and creative expression. Supported by European funds under the Algarve 2030 Regional Program.

Main objectives

  • Promoting culture as an element of community cohesion, encouraging participation in artistic activities.
  • Developing cognitive, emotional and social skills through art.
  • Encouraging active citizenship through cultural initiatives that stimulate the population’s involvement.
  • Empowerment and autonomy of communities, providing opportunities for learning and expression.
  • Rescue and valorization of the local cultural identity, promoting recognition of the traditions and experiences of the region.

Target audience

The project is aimed at:

  • Families from the Chinicato municipal housing estates, numbering around 270 people.
  • Residents of Bairro 25 de Abril (Meia-Praia), whose community dynamics will be strengthened through cultural activities, involving around 200 people.
  • CASLAS users, including children, young people and adults, in a total of approximately 750 people, promoting contact with art and creativity.

Planned activities

  • Artistic Experimentation Laboratories: Sessions dedicated to the plastic, visual and performing arts, led by experienced artists.
  • Cultural events and exhibitions: Dissemination of the artistic creations of the communities, promoting local talent.
  • Cultural mediation sessions: Visits to cultural venues to strengthen the relationship between the population and artistic events.
  • Intergenerational activities: Meetings that encourage the exchange of knowledge and experiences between different generations.
  • Training courses: Courses aimed at personal, professional and artistic development.

Expected impact

The Camarata Project aims to strengthen community ties through art and culture, encouraging the active participation of the population and promoting greater recognition of local identity and history. Through the appreciation of culture, it is hoped to contribute to the well-being and enrichment of the communities involved, creating new opportunities for expression and personal development.
