Synopsis
Batuque is part of Cape Verde’s intangible cultural heritage. The music and dance are based on handclapping and singing, sometimes with an improvised voice over the choir. The Boa Esperança Group was founded over 25 years ago in Loulé and today it consists of 22 members of various nationalities. In their performances, they demonstrate drumming “with joy and strength in their arms.”
