ROOTS 2025 > Co-curator > Francisco Vidal (Portugal / Angola)

Born in Lisbon in 1978, the son of a Cape Verdean mother and Angolan father, Francisco Vidal has been exploring various media in his work, including painting, drawing, and installation, the result of a meticulous and ongoing reflection on the discursive possibilities of plastic and aesthetic expression in relation to Portuguese and Angolan societies and current affairs. His work is imbued with historical and political connotations, addressing themes such as the African diaspora, cultural and identity miscegenation, and transcultural currents.

He was one of Angola’s representatives at the 56th Venice Biennale (2015), a country where he has shared his residence with Portugal. He has exhibited regularly since 2005, in solo and group shows in Lisbon, Luanda, Paris, São Tomé, Johannesburg, São Paulo, London, Macau, Lagos, and Chile, and is represented in several renowned public and private collections.
