Synopsis
The ROOTS 2025 program kicks off with an exhibition that proposes a constellation of “PARALLEL NARRATIVES” around a set of works produced during previous editions of this artistic residency, together with a series of unpublished works by Portuguese-Angolan artist Francisco Vidal, as well as videographic works by João Samões and Vanessa Fernandes. This exhibition is curated by Patrícia Leal.
The exhibition stems from the need to question the ways in which the history of the colonial past has been narrated and represented. A past often enclosed in monuments that conceal legacies of violence and exclusion. Against a single history, multiple histories. Against silence, voices. Against oblivion, images. Parallel Narratives is an invitation to imagine what has not yet been said.
