Biography

Sam King (b. 1995, Manchester, UK) is a British/Australian artist, living and working in London. King’s work probes issues such as transhumanism and the utopian and dystopian potentialities of technological progress. His work combines classical and ‘virtual’ painting techniques, drawing upon heterogeneous references from art history, computer generated software and personal photography. Compelled by a personal health experience, King explores how technology enables transcendence of corporeal limitations, but also enwraps human life within complex systems. His work navigates these shifting contradictions present within 21st century life.
